Famous Authors in the Special Collections Research Center

Charles Dickens

The University of Kentucky Libraries Special Collections Research Center houses the papers of many famous authors. This exhibit, curated by Library School graduate student Brittany Netherton, highlights correspondence from novelists, poets, essayists, and journalists from America and the United Kingdom spanning from approximately 1802-1975.

The letters in this exhibit have been digitized and transcribed. The transcribed text is shown beside the original letter in order to facilitate study of the text.

Included in this collection are:

Kentucky authors such as Jesse Stuart, Irvin S. Cobb, and Robert Penn Warren;
American authors such as Willie Snow Ethridge, Craig and Upton Sinclair, and William Woodward;
English Romantic Poets such as Samuel T. Coleridge, James R. Lowell, Robert Southey, and William Wordsworth;
Other English authors such as Charles Dickens (photo above), C.S. Forester, Charles Lamb, and Alexander Pope;
and Scottish author Sir Walter Scott.
